Maura & Robert's Intimate Mountaintop Wedding | NC Wedding Photographer
When Maura reached out to me this Spring and asked me to photograph her intimate wedding in Flat Rock, NC, I was thrilled! During this quarantine, my weddings had all been postponed, so the prospect of being able to photograph this one was truly a blessing. Flat Rock also has some special memories for me as well—I spent a lot of time there during my college summers, working at a nearby camp and visiting with my aunt.
I didn’t meet Maura until the day of, but I immediately fell in love with her and Robert and their families. They were some of the kindest, friendliest people I met and welcomed me as one of their own into the AirBnB they had rented for their big weekend. And this AirBnB was the perfect location for an afternoon, mountaintop wedding! The inside was bright and airy, and the porch had just the right amount of space for the 14 people in attendance to sit or stand and a gorgeous view of the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
After Maura got into her amazing, hand-designed dress, she and Robert had a romantic first look on the porch, we took some family photos, and then we headed to a nearby park for a portrait session of just the couple. Their interactions were full of fun, laughter, and so relaxed! It’s obvious that they are perfect for each other! Then we headed back to the house to get ready for their intimate ceremony.
Both the bride and groom’s parents were in attendance, as well as Robert’s grandparents. Maura’s sister was her maid of honor, and Robert’s friend Thomas served as his best man. Their friend Morgan ran Zoom, where over 150 virtual guests were able to watch the ceremony! And then there was their officiant, a videographer, and me… It was beautiful and sweet and PERFECT. I couldn’t have imagined a more relaxed and graceful ceremony! One of my favorite moments was when Maura’s sister began singing and the sun literally came through the trees to give her a halo. It was a moment fit for the angels. After the ceremony Maura and Robert held a quick Zoom toast and said hello to their friends and family from afar, and then the family enjoyed some quality time and a delicious catered meal together.
I felt so honored to be one of the few people who got to attend this simple yet beautiful wedding. Our current events have definitely changed wedding plans, but this family made the best of it and held the most marvelous of microweddings, and I am so grateful to have been able to document every moment! Maura and Robert, I wish you blessing upon blessings in your life together! Thank you for giving me the joy of being in your families’ presence on your special day.
